‘Improving Mental Health of Low-income Community in Jordan:Development and Implementation of Mental Health Nurse and CHW Training Program’

• Target site: Jordan, nation-wide.

• Objective
• Provide psychiatric nursing consultation service byenhancing the curricuium of the Jordan Nursing College at the Hashemite University.
• Build the capacity of professional nurses and improve mental health of people with low-income in Jordan.

• Background of the Program
• The influx of refugee caused the increase in the number of low-income people and had its impact on the insufficient provided health service.
• People tend to receive health services from tertiary medical centers, due to the high costs of medical services, which raised the need to elevate the health services provided at the tertiary medical centers.
• Jordan 2025 calls for promotion of human rights for women and children.
• In 2010, WHO selected Jordan to be the focus country for mental health improvement project, the project included training for mental health personneland managingpsychiatric medical centers.
• The strategy of Ministry of Health (MOH) 2013-2017stresses on providing mental health services and sufficient and qualified health workers.
